beautiful photography by darren holmes. strangely reminiscent – at times and in a very subtle way – to the work of Joel-Peter Witkin.

what dubai will look like.

someone was crazy enough to create a rendering of what Dubai will look like in a few years from now, after all the buildings which have already been green lit finish their construction.

the year 1990.

never have I thought an alernative to Kubricks favourite type face, Futura, would ever feel right. But somehow, Experimental Jetset have found a way. I gotta say, I love it. As neutral as it is, they’ve managed to still bring out the right feeling to represent Kubricks masterpiece, 2001. And the ‘I’ as the monolith? Fantastic. Kudos.

paul rand is potentially one of the best designers of the last….ever. his designs have tons of wit, colour and excitement, long before any of that was trendy. he’s paved the way for many of us… and now there’s a website dedicated to him with a fantastic archive of his work, much of it hard to find online generally.

if you’re in design, and happen to not know who Paul Rand is, I’d suggest you hop on this boat, because almost everything you happen to love about design, most likely was influenced by him.

 check it out here.

Yves Saint Laurent Fall/Winter 2008-2009 Collection

February 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

aside from Yves Saint Laurent being the pinnacle of the fashion world, this years fashion show was presented in quite the fantastic way. The crowd sat infront of an enormous screen which went from one side of the room to the other, up super close, and this is the video that was presented.

beautiful. even after all these years, YSL is still at the top of its game.

here’s a pic from the show, courtesy of kanye wests own blog. (which, by the way, is a great blog in its own right)

this has been popping up all over the place as of late. and with reason, these beautiful stamps are inspired by German designer Otl Aicher. I think that currently there’s an over abundance of maximalism, as people have lost the ability of knowing when to hold back and realizing the real potential of simplicity and minimalism. Too many people feel underachieved when their projects don’t resonate tons of layers and filters etc, when really, design should involve more thinking before doing than simply doing. I think these beautiful stamps are an inspiration to that. This is probably one of the best findings in recent time, and hopefully a push to young designers (such as myself) in finding the beauty in simplicity and the effectiveness of colour and pattern.

please, if you have not already seen this, check out exploratory design.
