a lesson in history.

i figured i don’t post nearly enough beautiful work from the past, so i figured that i really should, as i feel design in the past is just as important as that in the present.

this is Adolphe Mouron Cassandre’s three part series of posters for Dubonnet wine. this has always been one of my (many) favourite pieces in design history. they’re beautifully illustrated, and as the series progresses, the name fills up. he also creates a play on words in french, Dubo (for du beau – handsome – as he looks at it), Dubon (for du bon – good – as he’s drinking it), and then finally the name of the wine he’s refilling.
